Grandmas last cars were a 98 escort wagon and before that a RoboCop era Taurus. Grandpa bought a 95 tbird and told everyone it has the same v8 as a town car. Before I was born grandpa had a Chrysler imperial, and grandma a nova as I think. My dad & uncles wrecked everything.

I love hearing of their car stories. My dad had a Baja bug apparently, & rolled it, but still drove it.

I don't remember the specifics, but my grandfather on my dad's side was a GMC pickup man. Always GMC, and I can't count how many times we rode in the back of that thing. I guess that's frowned upon these days. And for sedans, he was a Chrysler man. One time he bought an AMC Matador sedan, and he said it spent more time in the shop than on the road. He kept it maybe a year before going back to Chrysler. My grandparents on my mom's side should not have been allowed to drive, but I believe they had a Dodge Dart, the one with the concave rear window. But that was long, long ago, and I've slept since then.

My paternal grandfather (1925) currently drives a Yaris. Previously he had two Suzuki Altos and a late mk1 or early mk2 Ford Fiesta (I don't remember). I also recall my dad talking about a Fiat 600.

My maternal grandparents have both been dead for over two decades, but I certainly remember some of the cars. I currently still own the last one, a 1991 mk2 Golf I picked up new at the dealer with my grandfather. I was 8. It replaced a 1982 Jetta. No idea what they had before that time.

All of these cars, including my almost 89 year old grandfather's Yaris, were/are manuals.

My maternal grandparents used to drive a butter colored GS Break like this one. They gave up driving before I was born.

Kinja'd!!!

On the paternal side this (an Opel Rekord E) is the main grandparents' car I remember from childhood. Theirs was dark blue and had the silver striping. I used to love that thing when I was little. After this they went to a champagne Astra F sedan, followed by an Astra G in a rather unflattering meatloaf type brown. Apparently they had a falling out with their longtime Opel dealer at that point because after that they went to a silver MK5 VW Golf+. Grandpa's gone now, but my grandmother traded the Golf (which gave her nothing but trouble) for a black Citroen C1, which she still drives today.

My mother's father had plenty of cars. The the most interesting was '38 Dodge sedan that he had in 50's. Most of our prewar cars and trucks were taken by government during the war and usually they weren't returned intact. At least in picture the Dodge looked pretty good so I guess it was a lucky one.

My father's father was a farmer who lost his farm when Karelia was taken by Soviet Union. He didn't have a car but he had a horse.

Then she got another one but the ones with the cab forward styling in 96. Loved that car. My grandpa drove a 98 Mercury Sable wagon, have no idea why. Thank you and yes. As he had instructed us in his will, we sold it to his best friend William, who had always admired it and had been promised the first shot at it if it ever came up for sale. My granddad drove VW buses. He had numerous buses over the years. My favorite was a completely stock looking 67 with a 911 engine......he was a tool and die maker and did all the work himself.

My great aunt (my granddad's sister) had 3 Porsches back in 1969..they were all the same except they were different colors. She didn't get married until she was 45 and she married a very wealthy dude. They went car shopping and my Aunt Helen couldn't make her mind up what color she wanted....hence 3 911's in the driveway.

They were only married for a couple years....he died in bed, but he wasn't sleeping if you know what I mean.

My Grandma drove a Zastava 750, and then a Zastava 101, an '88 Mitsubishi Colt, and the last car she drove before she stopped driving was a '96 VW Golf GTi (non VR6) that was bought for her as a birthday gift from my uncle and mom
My Grandpa drove a Zastava 750, a Ford Taunus Sport (2 door) a Zastava 101, An opel Kadett 1.3, and he bought a '97 Astra 4-5 months before he passed away, but never took delivery of it. This is on my mom's side.

On my dad's side, my Grandma never learned how to drive,
My grandpa drove a Fiat 500, Zastava 750, a lada 2107 sedan, a lada 2107 estate, a Lada samara, a lada niva, a '91 VW 8V MK2 GTi (Still owns it, and it is pristine! he bought it new in '91, and since this is southern Europe, was afraid to drive it unless it was a special occasion. He still owns the car, and after 23 years, it has about 65,000 kilometers on it) a '91 VW golf (non-turbo) diesel, and finally a 2011 Opel Insignia (basically a buick regal)

Let's see now...

Mom's side

- 2005 Ford Crown Victoria, Grandpa bought it in '05, he died in '10 I gave it to his older brother at that point, he was driving an '01 that was about to kick the bucket. He was 86 then and I almost had to fight him for him to take it and not pay me. It was Grandpa's idea to give it to him and I supported it 100%, he's now going on 90 and still driving it, and he's got the biggest smile on his face whenever he talks to me about it.

- 1985 Mercury Grand Marquis and 1984 Ford F-150. He bought both in the early 90's, both were junked when he bought the '05 because both frames were rotten. Didn't have 350k between the both of them. The Grand Marquis was "Grandma's car" and it tore him apart to get rid of it (she had died in '94). I still remember the day he bought it. He had went to get operated on his wrist and on the way home had stopped in at the dealership to use the restroom. Came back home with it. Navy Blue with blue velour interior. Truck was also navy blue with blue vinyl interior, as basic a truck as you could buy. He had bought the truck at Hyundai (heh) dealership used.

- 1979 Ford Ltd. Dark red. 351. Drove it until he bought the 1985, at which point he gave it to my mom to drive to work. It was a great car except it had gremlins in the starter and would sometimes (often) refuse to start. Mom replaced it with a sky blue '93 Cavalier

-late 70's Ford F150. Black with orange stripes down the sides. Three-on-the-tree. After he bought his "new" truck he had it parked on the hill behind the house. Some 4 year old kid who shall not be named tried to kill his grandfather by putting it in neutral while alone in it. Grandpa had to run and grab the door open, get dragged 20-25' before managing to turn the wheels so the truck eventually stopped. (I may or may not have been a lone grandchild at that point.)

Before that he had probably 30+ Ford or Mercury full size sedans, Marquis, Crowns and Galaxie's of all sorts. 1 Chevrolet Impala (rust bucket, "like all GM's") and a '34 Plymouth which was his first car and was a used lemon ("Chrysler's are no good") he bought during WWII. My Grandpa was a Ford guy.

Parents side

- 2008 Pontiac G8

- 2001 Dodge Caravan, my dad was a salesman for Chrysler at that point. Kind of had to buy something from him. I suppose they couldn't have bought something during the previous 5 years he sold Acura's/M-B's

-1990 Chevrolet Silverado 2x4 long box, Dad's truck my grandfather bought from him when he got a job as a salesman. First vehicle I ever drove, I can name you almost every detail of that truck. One of my saddest car moments was when my grandfather sold it, I honestly cried. Still chokes me up thinking about it.

-1988 Celebrity, silver with red velour interior. "Grandma's car" the car she got her license in, they kept it until '04 when they bought the minivan.

-1984 S-10 long box 2x4, grandpa's work truck

-1984 Chevrolet Cavalier, red on red.

Long list of bargain and "cheap" chevrolet's before that, my grandmother's brother has been working at a Chevrolet dealership for 35+ years, last 25 as GM.
